This case study examines how Platon, one of Ukraine’s prominent payment service providers (PSPs), transitioned from their own payment solution to Akurateco’s white-label SaaS payment platform with further transition to on-premises infrastructure, significantly expanding their payment processing capabilities.
About Platon
Platon, a leading PSP in Ukraine, provides robust payment processing and transaction services to a diverse range of payment market participants. Operating successfully since 2012, Platon has grown its client base to over 1,000 companies across Ukraine. With a daily transaction volume exceeding 3M, Platon has become a trusted provider for high-traffic e-commerce businesses.
Where were they coming from?
When Platon decided to upgrade its payment processing infrastructure, they were driven by the need for a more advanced, future-proof solution. Their existing platform no longer met their needs and limited their ability to maintain full control over their payment operations. Here’s where they came from:
Lack of innovative technologies and integrations
Platon’s existing infrastructure was dependable and time-tested, providing a solid foundation for years of payment processing. However, as new technologies emerged, their platform lost its luster, lacking advanced integrations and cutting-edge payment features that became essential in today’s market. To stay competitive and meet evolving client expectations, Platon needed a solution with robust technologies and seamless integration options.
A need for enhanced autonomy and control
While there were plenty of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) options on the market, Platon was looking for greater operational autonomy to manage their system and optimize customization. Transitioning to an on-premises solution offered Platon the control needed to tailor infrastructure settings, support specific client needs, and enhance operational flexibility, all within a dedicated environment.
Scaling infrastructure with cost-efficiency
Migrating to an on-premises solution meant significant long-term savings, as it allowed Platon to own and manage its infrastructure directly, bypassing subscription fees associated with SaaS models. After evaluating several options, they selected Akurateco’s white-label payment system, which offered both SaaS and on-premises setups. Akurateco’s solutions provided cost efficiency, delivering dedicated infrastructure and flexibility at a price more aligned with their growth strategy.
How we implemented the on-premises setup for Platon
Platon sought a transition that would provide advanced infrastructure control while remaining cost-effective. Initially, they decided to try Akurateco’s SaaS platform to ensure it would meet their needs and integrate seamlessly with their operations. The SaaS deployment offered them flexibility and scalability, which they used to test new payment features and optimize their workflows without significant infrastructure changes.
Following the successful pilot with the SaaS setup, Platon chose to transition to an on-premises deployment. Akurateco then implemented the on-premises solution by configuring dedicated servers in one of Ukraine’s largest data centers. The next steps were as follows:
Infrastructure setup and installation
Following the configuration of Platon’s dedicated servers, Akurateco installed the payment software and initiated a seamless data migration process from the previous infrastructure.
Bank integrations
To support Platon’s unique operational requirements, Akurateco developed custom integrations with the acquiring banks critical to their business.
Training and support
Over three months, Akurateco’s team provided hands-on support for the new infrastructure and conducted intensive training sessions, ensuring Platon’s team was fully equipped to manage the system independently.
Transitioning control to Platon
After six months, Platon began to independently manage the infrastructure with the help of Akurateco’s remote support services. By the end of the year, Platon took full ownership of the payment infrastructure, enjoying a robust and scalable on-premises system tailored to their unique requirements.
What did we achieve together?
Through our collaboration, Platon successfully transitioned to a fully on-premises payment processing solution, benefiting from both enhanced control and advanced technological capabilities. Here’s what we accomplished together:
- Since 2021, Platon has operated on a cutting-edge payment platform featuring the latest payment technologies and integrations. This upgrade has modernized their infrastructure and positioned them at the forefront of the Ukrainian payment market, ready to adapt to emerging trends and evolving customer demands.
- Transitioning to an on-premises setup provided Platon with complete autonomy over their infrastructure, empowering them to implement customizations, manage security, and optimize performance directly. This independence has enabled them to tailor their operations precisely to their business needs.
- Owning their infrastructure has significantly reduced ongoing subscription expenses associated with SaaS, aligning with Platon’s long-term growth strategy. The on-premises solution offers scalability and flexibility, giving them a cost-effective foundation that supports expansion and innovation.
